This booklet focuses on various methods of reaching the rural radio audience for farm technology organization timely information and general rural development as exemplified by programs in Nepal Philippines Ghana Papua New Guinea Colombia Czechoslovakia and Canada. Each chapter was prepared by someone from the country programs and includes introductory background about radio in the country. Excerpts of some of the programs are included. The Nepal program 15 minutes 3 times weekly has a popular discussion between the junior technical assistant and the old lady which attracts 50-90% of the listening audience. In Papua New Guinea the Farmers Session airs daily programs of 25 minutes including a signature tune information discussion interview and summary bridged with music: 1 tune about an extension agent became a hit record. In Ghana the radio forum organizations have spread and self-perpetuated themselves. A local station in the Philippines has successfully used a magazine format with a studio announcer presenting mobile reports taped interviews studio discussions and phoned-in reports linking public service news and agricultural technical information. The Colombian Accion Cultural Popular has a radio program as one of its projects: a 15-minute drama and hourly spots featuring responsible parenthood directed at campesinos. Czechoslovakia has a 15-minute magazine-style program called Rural Broadcast produced by a team of 6 professional women. Canadas program has evolved into an information-packed farm news show with in-depth reports and no music or chat.
