Operations, Administration, Maintenance, Provisioning, and Troubleshooting for Residential Services

Brian Hedstrom, Stuart Hoggan, Sergio Gambro, Mehmet Toy · 2015

Operations, administration, maintenance, provisioning, and troubleshooting (OAMPT) capabilities, which add troubleshooting functionality to the traditional OAMP, are necessary to order and maintain the residential services. OAMPT for residential services are challenging mainly due to the involvement of a very large number of customer premises equipment (CPE), facilities, and connections. As a result, automation for each OAMPT function is crucial for multiple system operators (MSOs). This chapter discusses OAMPT for residential services based on the TMN FCAPS model. The business and service management layer is where higher level MSO business processes are implemented via BSS/OSS systems. The major service and network management features introduced in the DOCSIS 3.1 protocol include configuration, monitoring, and reporting on the feature set. The provisioning system of the BSS/OSS stack is a critical component of any service provider's back-office.
