International Standards on Human-Computer Interaction: What is Out There and How Will it be Implemented?
Harry E. Blanchard · International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction · 1997
There has been a significant increase in interest and activity in user interface standards over the last decade, many standards organizations have become heavily involved where, previously, there was only minor user interface activity. User interface professionals need to keep abreast of this activity, for it may have an important impact. When these standards and guidelines are in place, customers may demand that products conform. Many information technology customers are demanding easeof-use and interoperability of systems for users, and will see standards conformance as a route to this goal. Governments may require conformance, ostensibly for health and safety reasons. In some cases, programmer development tools may be designed to implement standards. And finally, standards present, in theory, the opportunity to promulgate good user interface design to a wide community of system developers.
