Comparison of Fast Direct Methods for Elliptic Problems

We compare and evaluate some efficient algorithms to solve linear elliptic partial differential equations with constant coefficients and Dirichlet boundary conditions.A new fourth order Fourier Series method is presented and comparisons have been made with some well known fast direct methods which indicate the superiority of the new method.
