IEEE 1900.4
Maria Stella Iacobucci · 2013
The chapter describes the IEEE 1900.4 and IEEE 1900.4a functional architectures, with the functional entities that enable reconfigurable radio system architectures. For both IEEE 1900.4 and IEEE 1900.4a architectures examples and use cases are presented. In 2007, the IEEE 1900 was reorganized as the IEEE Standard Coordination Committee 41 (IEEE SCC41), created with the goal of developing standards related to dynamic spectrum access networks. In December 2010, the IEEE SCC41 was reorganized as the IEEE Dynamic Spectrum Access Networks Standards Committee (DySPAN-SC). IEEE 1900.4a adds to the IEEE 1900.4 functional architecture new entities for dynamic spectrum access networks in white space frequency bands. The new entities add cognitive features to cognitive base stations (CBSs), such as CBS reconfiguration management, CBS reconfiguration control and CBS measurement collection, and look at the possibility of enabling secondary transmission using white spaces. Controlled Vocabulary Terms base stations; cognitive radio; dynamic spectrum access; IEEE standards; white spaces
