Vasco N. G. J. Soares, Joel J. P. C. Rodrigues · 2011
This chapter introduces the concept of cooperation and its importance on delay-tolerant networks (DTN) and vehicular delay-tolerant networks (VDTN) network architectures. It presents an overview of DTNs focusing on its architecture and application scenarios. The chapter introduces the cooperation concept and related work on cooperation in DTNs. It briefly describes VDTN network architecture and its innovative approach. It also describes the VDTN cooperation functions at the control plane and data plane level. The chapter analyzes the impact of node cooperation on the performance of data plane with two DTN routing protocols. Controlled Vocabulary Terms delay tolerant networks; transport protocols
