Computerised Temperature Measuring Systems

Lech A. Michalski, K. Eckersdorf, Jacek Kucharski, Joseph McGhee · 2001

Chapter Thirteen reviews computerised methods and instruments that can be applied for temperature measurement. This chapter corresponds to the current trend of replacing temperature measuring circuits by computer-based data acquisition and processing systems. Both hardware and software components of such systems are discussed and their properties dedicated to temperature measurement are pointed out. Two kinds of hardware are distinguished: external measuring modules, connected to the computer by a typical digital interface (e.g. RS 232) and plug-in data acquisition cards plugged into the expansion slots of the computer. Among software solutions dedicated to data acquisition systems, the packages using high-level programming languages as well as visual programming environments, leading to virtual measuring instrumentation, are presented. Several practical realisations in both groups, including technical data, diagrams and photos, offered by world-wide known producers are described.
