Geometrically Uniform Multidimensional Psk Constellations

The theory of geometrically uniform (GU) codes is applied to the case of multidimensional (MD) PSK constellations. The symmetry group of an L x MPSK is completely characterized. Conditions for rotational invariance of GU partitions of a signal constellation are illustrated. Through suitable algorithms, "good" GU partitions of L x MPSK (M=4, 8, 16 and L=1, 2, 3, 4) constellations are found. They are used as starting points in the search for good GU trellis codes.
