The effects of a limited wordlength and the saturation for the hardware implementation of direct-sequence spread-spectrum CDMA systems are stochastically analyzed. The distortion due to saturation is signal dependent, and causes very different effects when compared with that of the finite wordlength. Numerical results are obtained to show the optimum saturation limit of the quantizer for a given wordlength. This analysis can give a guide to low-cost digital implementations and assurance of the system performance without intensive simulations.
