A Preliminary Data Model for Orbital Flight Dynamics in Shuttle Missio Control

John W. O’Neill, Valerie L. Shalin · NASA Technical Reports Server (NASA) · 2000

Abstract: This report describes the Orbital Flight Dynamics domain Space Shuttle Mission Control and defines a context model and data model for Orbital Flight Dynamics work. Existing information system tools for Orbital Flight Dynamics are mapped onto the data model. These mappings reveal that the data model is only partially implemented, and that the flight controllers are responsible for manually intergrating information and congnitively tracking the state of work in their heads. Recommendations are made for fully implementing the data modle, automatically integrating data across informatio system tools, and reducing the cognitive burden on the flight controllers.
