CIRCSIM-Tutor is an intelligent tutoring system. It is a joint project between IIT and Rush Medical School. This software is used to teach first year medical school student the negative feedback system. CIRCSIM-Tutor is based upon teaching the student the behavior of seven important variables in the human body through conducting a natural language dialogue. This research focuses on designing a new domain knowledge base for CIRCSIM-Tutor V.3. The main focus of this project is to build the domain knowledge base using database management systems design methodology. The purpose of such design is to have a simple and easily updatable system. The domain knowledge base consists of three major components. The first component is the set of operators. These operators are called the problem-solver assistant. The main aim for these operators to provide answers to either physiology questions or to the process of solving a perturbation. The second component is the set of rules. The rules are very important part since they guide the problem-solver to successfully solve any procedure. The last component is the problem-solver. The problem-solver goes through the set of rules in order to assign each variable its correct value.
