Design and Optimization of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)
Emmanuel Grunn, Anh Tuan Pham · 2013
This chapter covers three principal topics related to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs): (i) general airplane design, making use of practical mechanical recommendations; (ii) modeling the trajectory strategy, to guide the airplane toward the target; and (iii) flight tests to evaluate the theoretical results. It helps to determine the weight estimation of a specific UAV project, namely ECODRONE, and defines stability coefficient while determining the size of the UAV. The chapter helps to evaluate mass, and measure roll, pitch and yaw inertias. A section describes the main features of the auto-pilot, which makes use of sensors and GPS information to automatically converge toward the target, using SIMULINK model and DYNAVION software.
