Software Development Staffing Plans — From Estimate to Reality

Proper software project management is one of the keys to successful software development. Project management can be aided by information determined and output by software development cost and schedule estimation models. This paper focuses on the area of software development staffing plan recommendations output by software development cost and schedule estimation models. Software development cost and schedule estimation model outputs and actual software project development staffing data will be compared. Emphasis will be placed on the following points: 1. Current methods of determining software project development staffing plans.2. Effect of various software development cost and schedule estimation model input parameters on the staffing plans.3. Varying the staffing plan recommendation output by the model, by varying the amount of acceptable risk.4. The new challenges of determining proper staffing information for software development projects written in the language Ada*.5. Possible future methods of improved determination for software development staffing plan recommendation.
