Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) refers to the technology used to transport voice in a digitised form over an IP-based network. As a network service, VoIP inherits all the vulnerabilities a best-effort service network suffers since voice frames can often travel over hostile environments such as the Internet. In this paper we perform an experimental analysis on the effects of encryption under burst VoIP traffic conditions in terms of call volumes under the CS-CELP G.729 coder. The effects of encryption have been illustrated by using the NS-2 simulation tool and a fully automated Python script.
