Questions: Definitions, Structure, and Classification.

A conception of the nature and structure of user questions is presented. A classification of questions, in which ques tions are classified on the basis of their conceptual presup position, also is presented. Examples of user questions are provided along with an analysis of their structure. Rules for making a structural analysis of questions and for classi fying questions are provided. The use of these devices should facilitate the processing of user questions and the performance of information systems.
