David G. Durand, Yann Iagolnitzer, Patrice Krzanik, Christophe Logé, Jean‐Ferdinand Susini · 2013

The concept of the Internet of Things aims at connecting everyday objects with each other. The goal is to enable the emergence of new distributed applications for automatically managing a large numbers of objects like a supply chain management. This chapter will allow readers to get used to the basic concepts and understand the issues of the Internet of Things. It concluded by presenting different future perspectives and an overview of current trends in this area. The chapter presents an overview of three object-oriented middleware architectures. Most of the concepts that have presented in the chapter consider middleware communication vectors among distributed application entities. It presents approaches based on the notion of tuple-space. The chapter also presents approaches based on distributed databases by adopting the point of view of embedded systems. Controlled Vocabulary Terms computer networks; distributed databases
