Physics in Collision : High-Energy ee-ep-pp Interactions
W. Peter Trower, G. Bellini · Medical Entomology and Zoology · 2012
This book is the first of a series that will annually review the facts of particle physics. It begins by focusing on quarks and leptons acting alone and concludes by reporting attempts to find common ground among lepton-lepton, quark-quark, and lepton-quark interactions. Each section contains several papers which summarize the state of the experimental information, one paper which explains these facts in terms of theory, and another paper which discusses the possibilities and prospects for new detectors and accelerators. Topics include heavy lepton searches; free quark searches; hadronic final states; electronpositron colliders; jet formation in e/sup +/e/sup -/ interactions; phenomenology of e/sup +/e/sup -/ physics; weak interactions of heavy quark states; quarkonium spectroscopy; proton colliders; fragmentation in high energy pp interactions; lepton pairs versus Drell-Yan mechanism; HERA; deep inelastic muon-nucleon scattering; high energy lepton-nucleon scattering; tagging charm with decay lengths; physics and society; hadronic events in pp collisions; comparisons of charm and beauty production in e/sup +/e/sup -/ annihilations and neutrino, muon and hadronic collisions; and the quark-gluon plasma and the little bang.
