Computing and Communications Systems
Nazzareno Rossetti Dr. · 2005
In chapter 7 we cover specifically the Desktop PC, a resilient device which continues to reinvent itself and defeat the many attempts by competing platforms to make it obsolete. Electronics for the Motherboard as well as the Silver Box is discussed here. Then we go into Portable Computing with the Notebook PC aspiring to claim the center stage for the coming age of “computing anywhere, anytime.” From computing we go to the Consumer market segment, discussing electronics for the Set-Top Box, as well as the Communications market segment where we discuss the very contemporary topic of Point of Load (POL) applications. Power management ICs for DDR memories, a pervasive technology common to all these market segments, is discussed here as well.
