Business interoperability is one of the keys to establishing partnerships and alliances acting in global markets. Thereby in knowledge-driven economy interoperability on the level of semantics assuming knowledge/competences exchange and sharing is currently of high importance. The paper describes an approach to building a knowledge management platform for enabling negotiation within a BTO production network. The platform is based on an ontological knowledge representation that provides for knowledge sharing and reuse. Based on the proposed platform a negotiation protocol is described. Negotiating units use the same knowledge representation formalism and the same shared ontology what makes it possible to avoid unnecessary translations and facilitate the negotiation process. The advantage of the proposed protocol is illustrated via an example.
