Performance and Availability Evaluation of IMS‐Based Core Networks

Kishor Shridharbhai Trivedi, F. Postiglione, Xiaoyan Yin · 2013

This chapter, six hierarchical analytic models are constructed to evaluate the steady-state availability of a signaling IMS-based core network, three models for the independent software recovery scheme and three models for the recovery scheme with dependencies. An optimization problem is solved to provide an optimal redundancy configuration for servers in the call set-up signaling network, while minimizing the cost and maintaining high availability. The accuracy of these models is compared to cross-validate each other. The execution time is also illustrated to show the efficiency of these proposed models. In addition, the models for the independent and dependent software recovery schemes are compared with respect to different input parameters. Moreover, the influences of the performance demand and redundancy configuration on the system steady-state availability are evaluated to provide the optimal configurations.
