This paper describes a general studies course designed to expose students to a unique aspect of information technology: its impact on the developing world. The course has the multiple goals of introducing students to other cultures and how those cultures are affected by modern technological advancements; using computer technology as a research and communication tool; and using the knowledge gained as a positive force for bridging the gaps between societies. In its initial offering, the course was delivered via online learning.
