Eigenstructure assignment applied to the design of an autopilot function for a civil aircraft

Lester Faleiro, Roger W. Pratt · Institution of Engineering and Technology eBooks · 2000

This chapter is a description of the way in which the potential, and the failings, of eigenstructure assignment (EA) as a robust flight control system (FCS) design method were exposed during its application to the robust civil aircraft model (RCAM) problem within this design challenge. The design problem will first be described. The methodology used to solve it through linear synthesis of a controller will be explained briefly, and then demonstrated for the aircraft problem. The resulting controller will be examined using a nonlinear model to show whether or not the method was able to provide the necessary results, design speed and insight into aircraft dynamics to be helpful in improving the final controller.
