Will Complexity Erode Trust?

The rise of new organizational forms to address social problems through markets, the proliferation of public-private partnerships involving governments, the erosion of the difference between corporate giving and corporate marketing has blurred the definition of “nonprofit.” Fundraising requires trust between donor and nonprofit, but when the very concept of “nonprofit” is mixed with markets, those who support social problem solving have many choices for how to do so, and perhaps less trust in, and loyalty to, funding the costs of traditional organizations.
