A general simulator with graphic support is described which simulates the computability of parallel processing systems. A parallel processing system is characterized to a certain extent by the type of communication network that interconnects the system components together. The simulator supports two special types of interconnection networks, namely, the dedicated path network and the multistage switching network. The simulator allows the user to define the topology of a parallel processing system. It provides the mechanism for studying the execution sequences of parallel algorithms in a distributed environment. The simulator also allows the user to study the effect of interprocessor communication strategy on a given algorithm. Execution of a set of computations can also be studied in a system with faculty modules. 16 references.
