SuperPipe: next generation of high speed trunks

Deepak Mathur · 2004

With the traffic demand increasing there will be a need for terabit routers to do the switching. In addition point-to-point links of several hundred gigabytes connecting them. Due to technological limitations these links are limited to 40Gbps currently. To bypass the limitations of technology, several parallel 10G links connecting a router pair are bundled together and treated as a single link or a high-speed trunk. Several schemes exist but have limitations. This paper introduces a novel new way of implementing high-speed link called SuperPipe and describes how it is superior to existing implementations.
