What do practitioners need to know about research methodology?

Because technical writers are sometimes called on to evaluate whether or not particular research findings are pertinent to their situation, it is important for them to have a basic understanding of research methodology. The author examines two issues: (1) identifying the two main types of methodology in business and technical communication research-quantitative and qualitative-and (2) helping technical communication practitioners understand the distinguishing characteristics of these methods.>
