Service‐Oriented Enterprise Interoperability in Logistics

Wout J. Hofman · 2013

There are many initiatives to improve interoperability in logistics. This chapter presents an approach based on a classification of logistics services supported by a semantic model and a business choreography. It introduces logistic services as a specialization of business services for logistics. Two examples of a logistic service, namely transport and transship are discussed in detail. The concepts of logistic services with their underlying ontology and its choreography can be implemented by both customer and logistic service provider. The chapter discusses the application of these concepts by a customer and logistic service provider in detail. It concludes that the introduction of the concept ‘business activity’ and its associations to other concepts in logistics provides an open infrastructure that allows business to construct relations for individual business transactions.
