Waveform Development Using Direct Digital Synthesis

The ele ments and operation of a typical direct digital synthesis system are described. The errors inherent in such a system are presented with a description of the corresponding noise in the output frequency spectrum. A direct digital synthesis system was designed, constructed. and tested to explore the capabilities of the AD99 SO accumulator and AD9712A digital-to analog converter. The hardware and software used to implement this syste m are described and resultsare presented.
