This chapter describes the main standards and technologies that are currently available with their advantages and disadvantages from the point of view of Pervasive Applications. To do this, first of all gather these characteristics into the following more general issues: Mobility, Context-awareness and Heterogeneity. The chapter briefly discusses available standards and technologies, focusing on two key issues: wireless connections for the lower layers and middleware for the higher layers. It considers the behaviour of these technologies, with their advantages and disadvantages, from the point of view of pervasive applications. Finally, the chapter considers two very different pervasive applications: Hiker’s PDA with Hiker’s Applications, developed in the Networking for Communications Challenged Communities: Architecture, Test Beds and Innovative Alliances project and MyHealthService, an ongoing research project in the Tromsø Telemedicine Laboratory. Controlled Vocabulary Terms ubiquitous computing; wireless communication
