For integrator of software intensive systems, open source software (OSS1) comes with two kind of opportunities: those which address its operational level, through the use of OSS components within systems, and those which may influence, or be part of, its R&D strategy, through appropriation and application of the “value creation” mechanisms, fundamentals of OSS.
