Mental imagery, visualisation tools and team work
Marian Petre · Open Research Online (The Open University) · 2002
This paper describes a series of empirical investigations into the relationship between mental imagery and software visualisation in professional high performance programming. It describes why these programmers tend not to use commercially available visualisation software as well as what tools they build for themselves, how they use the tools they build for themselves, and why they build tools for themselves. It discusses the role of other disciplines in understanding issues in this area, and discusses implications for future work in this field.
