Chapter 6 (74 pages) describes analogue and digital trunked mobile radio networks, both channel and packet oriented systems according to the respective ETSI TETRA standards. The MPT 1327 and the MODACOM trunked mobile radio systems are explained as first generation. Most of the chapter is devoted to the two versions of the ETSI/TETRA systems Voice + Data and Packet Data Optimised that are termed 2nd generation systems. The architecture of these systems, the commonalities and differences of the air interfaces and the protocol stacks are described in detail.
