Expository Writing Program: Making connections between reading and writing

Why do both good and poor readers have such difficulty writ ing informational papers? How can we design programs equally valuable for those who read grade level appropriate materials with ease, and those for whom low readability texts must be provided? One program recently developed and tested is the Expository Writing Pro gram (EWP). The EWP is designed to help students, regardless of reading level, learn about the writing process and the processes by which informa tion is gathered from multiple sources to produce well organized informa tional reports.
