Abstract In order to investigate the traffic engineering problem we begin with a study of the arrival process statistics. We then analyze the most common models used in traffic engineering: the Erlang B model, followed by the Erlang C and the Poisson models. We elaborate on these three models, individually and collectively. Finally, we discuss the problem of random‐access.
