Symbols and Equations

Herb Tyson · 2010

This chapter shows how to insert symbols and equations, the latter using Word's equation editor. It includes two ways of looking at symbols. The first part looks at them individually, and at how one goes about locating the symbol looking for and inserting it into documents. The second part focuses on using symbols to represent often complex concepts in mathematics, statistics, engineering, and other quantitative fields. The chapter helps the reader to: how to insert any of the built-in equations, as well as how to save your own creations to the gallery; determine an unknown character's character code and font subset; create and edit equations with Word 2010; edit legacy equations from earlier versions of Word; and set up a semiautomatic equation numbering solution.
