Point‐to‐Point (PTP) and Point‐to‐Multipoint (PMP) Wireless Systems and Antennas

Martin P. Clark · 2001

This chapter describes the most important two basic types of ‘fixed wireless access’ or ‘wireless local loop (WLL)’ systems – ‘point-to-point (PTP)’ and ‘point-to-multipoint (PMP)’ systems. The chapter discusses the types of applications for which the different systems are suited and, in particular, describes how the characteristics of the antennas used determine the point-to-point or point-to-multipoint nature of the system. The following chapters go on to discuss the different types of radio signal modulation used in PTP and PMP systems.
