Autonomic and Pervasive Networking
Thabo K. R. Nkwe, Mieso K. Denko, Jason B. Ernst · 2011
The objective of this chapter is to report on the current state of research that addresses autonomic pervasive networks with a focus on self-protection, self-organization and self-management in ubiquitous/pervasive networking and communications. It provides an overview of the architectures and applications of ubiquitous/pervasive networks. The chapter applies autonomic computing principles to ubiquitous/pervasive networking. It discusses the benefits of cross-layered protocols with respect to autonomic properties. The chapter presents a detailed discussion on the main self-* properties as applied to ubiquitous/pervasive networking. It covers the importance of the self-*characteristics of the autonomic network, and in particular self-CHOP properties. The chapter outlines the challenges and problems in existing networks and can be used as a starting point for future research in autonomic and pervasive networking. Controlled Vocabulary Terms mobile communication; ubiquitous computing
