A new adaptive nonlinear anisotropic diffusion for noise smoothing

The authors propose an adaptive nonlinear filtering method based on the nonlinear anisotropic diffusion equation. This new method has the advantage of flexibility and adaptability. Furthermore, a new degradation effect, not signaled before, we call the "pinhole effect", which may result in anisotropic diffusion is introduced and analyzed. A robust solution to this effect is proposed and evaluated through experimental data. The performance of the method is demonstrated on real and synthetic images.
