Hardware implementation of hierarchical FSMs

The paper describes a simple method for implementing recursion in hardware based on the model of a hierarchical finite state machine. Two types of synthesizable specification for such model have been proposed, namely Handel-C and VHDL. The practicability of the approach is demonstrated through examples.
