Power Control in Cellular Radio Systems

Jonas Blom · 1998

this paper holds for both down-link (i.e. base station to mobile station) and up-link communication and is not restricted to second generation systems, although this was our main motivation. An important quantity related to the transmission quality is the carrier-tointerference ratio, C/I, determined by the ratio of the desired and the undesired signal powers at the receiver. The C/I at mobile station i is denoted by ¯ fl i . The dominating approach is to use an integrating controller (I-controller in PID terms) regulating towards a target reference value ¯ fl tgt which is common to all users. This value is a compromise to satisfy the subscribers (high ¯ fl tgt
