Chapter 5 is devoted to IMT 2000 and UMTS with emphasis on the services specific loads expected and the respective frequency spectrum needed. Basics are given on the wideband CDMA radio interface, the terrestrial radio access network's logical architecture for FDD and TDD modes of operation and handover procedures according to the status of standardization at end 1998.
