QoE‐Based Network Selection in Heterogeneous Environments

This chapter presents a QoE-based network selection mechanism for homogeneous environments. It proposes to use a QoE-based solution, when several points of attachment (PoA) are available, that allows users to select the best network while keeping the load balanced among them. Therefore, a comprehensive use case of access point selection problematic in IEEE 802.11 standard is presented. The chapter then provides a network selection scheme for heterogeneous environments. The proposal takes QoE into account for network selection and also provides better load balancing between different networks. It is a user-based and network-assisted approach. By providing users with relevant information about the network for decision-making process, this approach is a good compromise for both user and network operator.
