An open framework to geotag and locate plants around the world

Riyad Dhuny, G. Sajeevan, Satish N. Pardeshi · 2015

Though plants are extremely important for the existence of life, many of us do not find motivation in caring, planting or sharing the location of plants. As we are all connected on the social networks and do share information quite fast, authors propose a framework to encourage general public to recreationally plant trees and/or share the location on a map. The hardware capabilities of smart phones, new HTML5 specifications, leaf recognition, Social networking, rewarding mechanisms and gamification are the components that inspire the framework. The framework shall act as a common base to allow several other games and educational tools to be built around it. It shall also support basic recording tasks for organisations engaged in plant protection and afforestation.
