CDN Analytics: A Primer

Timothy Siglin · 2014

This chapter focuses on content delivery network (CDN) analytics tools. It explores a variety of analytic practices and their practical implications, including new methods designed to analyze emerging technologies such as adaptive bitrate (ABR) video delivery via HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP). CDNs measure for a variety of reasons, both internal and external. Internal measurements focus on the overall CDN delivery cycle from available transit capacity to storage efficiency and to cache hit ratios. For external reporting, there are two types of reports: historical and projected, generated by CDN analytics tools. Usage reports focus on the content delivered. The chapter talks about business intelligence (BI), which is intended to give insight into a number of key elements of a business. It concludes with a discussion on the recent trends in CDN analytics.
