This article looks at the growing trend in wireless applications for intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The author points out that the ITS standards specifications are almost 100% complete and that the fiscal year 1996 budget allocations include wireless electronic registration of commercial vehicles, real-time tracking and management of vehicle fleets, and customer service terminals for public transit.
