Smart Homes for People Suffering from Cognitive Disorders
Sylvain Giroux, Hélène Pigot · 2012
This chapter looks at the work carried out at DOMUS during the last decade or so. This interdisciplinary work relies on ambient intelligence, mobile computing and tangible user interfaces. First, the chapter shows the importance of the impact of cognitive disorders on society. Then, it presents the identification of clients in terms of types of cognitive disorder and levels of cognitive deterioration who are good candidates for being able to live at home. Ambient intelligence and mobile computing form the backbone of an integrated and interdisciplinary approach that enables one to foster aging at home of the targeted population. Finally, the chapter shows how to transform a residence into a smart home, to perform research activities there regarding infrastructure, middleware, ambient applications, and evaluation.
