This chapter provides aspects related to the testing and measurement of frequency transfer across a packet network. A section presents some of the basic definitions and terms related to packet synchronization networks. There are several ways to configure an equipment under test. The most popular and straightforward way is through a command line interface (CLI) or graphical user interface (GUI). Another section presents a short summary of the typical signals, cables and connectors used when testing and measuring synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEE 1588 equipment. Testing of SyncE and the IEEE 1588 end-to-end telecom profile technologies are discussed in detail.
