Java Framework for Negotiating Management Agents

O. Krone, Bettina Messmer, H. Almiladi, T. Curran · 2001

Chapter three introduces a simple but powerful Java-based agent framework for network management applications. With the increased demand for new services and the ever-present need to reduce costs, both network and service providers require improved management of resources. Better utilisation of resources through distributed control can be facilitated using agent technology. Allowing resource management agents to negotiate among themselves–forming a society of independently acting agents–may achieve promising resource utilisation results. The power of this paradigm appears to arise from the negotiating and management facilities of the agents, with their specialist intelligence just being added on.
