Programmable Networks for IP Service Deployment

Alex Galis, Spyros Denazis, Celestin Brou, Cornel Klein · 2004

Programmable networks have been proposed as a solution for the fast, flexible, and dynamic deployment of new network services. Programmable networks are networks that allow the functionality of some of their network elements to be programmable dynamically. These networks aim to provide easy introduction of new network services by adding dynamic programmability to network devices such as routers, switches, and applications servers. This book focuses on the research results in programmable network. Book chapters: Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, Introduction, Programmable Networks: Background, Programmable Networks’ Security: Background, Programmable Network Management and Services: Background, SwitchWare Active Platform, Peer-to-Peer Programmability, Programmable Networks’ Requirements, FAIN Network Overview, Virtual Environments and Management, Demultiplexing, Security Management, Resource Control Framework, Control Execution Environments, High-Performance Execution Environments, Network Management, Service Deployment in Programmable Networks, DiffServ Scenario, WebTV Scenario, The Outlook, About the Editors, Index
