Rises, Levels, Drops and “+” Signs in Compositions: Extensions of a Paper by Alladi and Hoggatt

A composition of n consists of an ordered sequence of positive integers whose sum is n. A palindromic composition (or palindrome) is one for which the sequence reads the same forwards and backwards. We derive results for the number of “+” signs, summands, levels (a summand followed by itself), rises (a summand followed by
